MICHAEL FRANCIS MYCHAK TORNADO HERITAGE AWARD
Isabella Stellar has been selected as the second-ever winner of the Mychak Tornado Heritage Award given to a student athlete who excels in the classroom, on the playing fields and has shown exceptional pride in representing Mount Carmel Area High School. Ms. Stellar has been chosen by her peers as their class president in both her junior and senior years, in addition to being elected treasurer as a freshman. She has been a four year member of Student Council.
Isabella can be seen regularly on WKMC-TV, the shcool’s local news channel, where she is a News Anchor, reporter and writer. She is a member of the National Honor Society and National Athletic Honor Society. She has been an Elks Student of the month in 2013 and 2014 and was chosen the 2014 Homecoming Queen for Mount Carmel Football. She has been a four-year member of the Big Red Marching Band and the Mount Carmel Area Symphonic Band, playing the flute, french horn, and melephone. She is a member of the Senior High Chorus and has participated in a number of MCA Theater Productions including “Grease”, Legally Blonde, and this year’s Bye Bye Birdie.
Stellar has volunteered with the Think Big Dance Marathon, Four Diamonds MiniThon, Lions Club Meals on Wheels, Hoops for Heart, school clothes collections and collections for local food banks. She is a member of Holy Angels Church in Kulpmont where she is also a member of the choir, Church Youth Group and is a picnic volunteer.
Athletically Izzy has been a four-year letter winner with MCA soccer and a senior captain. She has played almost every position, including striker, mid fielder, defender, and goal keeper when called upon. She has been an essential part of coach Lisa Varano’s Lady Tornado basketball program that has won three consecutive District IV Championships, four consecutive Heartland Division II Championships and one overall Heartland Conference Crown. The 2015 team placed third in District IV and moved on to the state tournament for the 6th consecutive year. The 98 wins in the four-year period mark the most ever for the Lady Tornadoes. Stellar has also earned four varsity letters with MCA track and has been a District IV qualifier in 2012, 2013, 2014 in the javelin and a 2014 qualifier in the shot. She has only recently been named to the Ed Romance Chapter Athlete of the Month for March.
Isabella is the daughter of Ed and Shelly Stellar of Kulpmont and is currently enrolled in Bloomsburg University’s ACE Program – college level courses and credits. Her future plans are to attend Temple University and its College of Communications to study Media Communications.
