SPECIAL ACHIEVEMENT
Christina Perles will become the 10th name on the list of Lady Tornado Basketball players who have surpassed the 1000-point plateau. Her journey to the mark was different than most as she played her first three seasons for the Lourdes Regional Red Raiders. While there, Christina totaled 979 points in helping the Red Raiders to three consecutive District IV Single A Championships.
Before the start of the 2012 school year, Perles transferred to Mount Carmel Area where she surpassed the 1000-point mark in fer first game for the Tornadoes, scoring 22 points in MCA’s 65-40 victory over Sunbury Christian. She has led the Tornadoes in scoring during the 2012-13 season on the way to a fine 19-3 regular season record. The girls also nabbed their third consecutive Heartland Division II Championship and the top seed in District IV play. Christina’s monster 21-point game led the Tornadoes to a 66-43 victory over Southern for its third consecutive District Title. Perles also accomplished the rare fete of winning District Championships at two different schools. She has averaged 17 points per game and is shooting close to 80% from the free-throw line. Her career total of more than 1400 points ranks 5th all-time on MCA’s list. Her play on the court led her to being named the Chapter’s Athlete of the Month for December. Christina was also selected as the 2012-13 Pre-Season Player of the Year by the Daily Item and received the Black Diamond Discovery Award as a freshman.
Christina is the daughter of Deb and Rick Perles of Kulpmont and is planning to continue her playing career at a four-year college.
